KS3 Black History Resources

Black history is the portion of American history that specifically discusses the struggles and achievements of African-American or Black American ethnic groups in the United States.

Most African Americans are the descendants of enslaved Africans brought to the United States from 1555 to 1865. As enslaved people, they endured terrible working and living conditions, experienced violence and discrimination. It took decades of struggle, activism and mass demonstrations for African-Americans to achieve the same basic rights as white Americans. The Civil Rights Movement took place primarily during the 1950s and 1960s and culminated in important legislation to enforce their rights as US citizens.
