Many people used to believe in witches and witchcraft, they used to believe that a witch was working with the devil to try and make people into sinners and so go to hell.

People used to think that it was easy to spot a witch. These were the things they looked for An old woman that lived on her own, she had a pet usually a cat, a bird or a toad and sometimes a mark on her skin. Some people believed that witches fed their pets on blood, and captured young children to boil in pots and eat. Many women were put on trial for witchcraft; often the trial was not very fair. One example of a witch trial can be seen on the picture page.
