Lesson Plan Snapshot:

The very first British immigrants to arrive in Australia did not go willingly. They were criminals found guilty of crimes in Britain and given the punishment of transportation to Australia to establish a new colony for the empire. The first convicts arrived in 1788. Eleven ships carrying approximately 780 British male and female convicts anchored at Botany Bay in a part of Australia called New South Wales.
