KS3 Feudalism Resources

From the 5th to the 15th centuries, Europe experienced the Middle Ages, or Medieval period. It began with the collapse of the Western Roman Empire and merged into the Renaissance and the Age of Discovery. The Middle Ages is characterised by the social hierarchy known as feudalism. This system consisted of kings, lords, knights, vassals, and peasants. All land belonged to the monarch who then granted land known as fiefs to the nobility and bishops. These landowners needed peasants to cultivate and manage their land, and in exchange peasants were allowed to live on the land and receive protection from the lord.
