KS3 Impact of Migration before 1066 Resources

Dating back millennia, the British Isles has been called home by many groups of people. Going back to the first century BCE, the modern-day areas of England, Wales and parts of southern Scotland were called Britannia and home to many Celtic tribes. In the middle of that century, the Gallic Wars saw Romans invade and remain until 410 CE. After the Romans left, some kingdoms of the British Isles fell to the invading forces of the Vikings and Danes, who established the Danelaw and brought with them different customs, social structures, and systems of taxation from the 7th to the 9th centuries. Between the 5th and 11th centuries, another group of people known as the Anglo-Saxons also lived in the British Isles. They united many regions into the Kingdom of England, ruled by King Æthelstan in around 927-939. They too had their own social structure, customs and beliefs, which were uprooted with the invasion of the Normans in 1066. This brought England under the political influence of France, and English kings held territory in France.
