• The first people to come to Seychelles came from Borneo in the year 300AD
• In 1502 the  Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama, crossing from India to East Africa found islands which he called the Amirantes
• In March 1608 a fleet of ships belonging to the English East India Company set sail for India
• They found an uninhabited island
• From the end of the 16th century until 1730, the Seychelles remained the secret hiding place for pirates
