Lesson Overview:

In 1914 the six most powerful countries in Europe had divided into two opposing alliances. These were called the Triple Alliance or Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy) who formed in 1882 and the Triple Entente (Britain, France and Russia) who joined together in 1907. Each country was heavily armed and each one had a reason to distrust other countries in Europe.
