Lesson Snapshot:

• Between 1901 – 1920s the Progressive Movement did improve America thanks to 3 different presidents:
• the US Constitution was amended for the better;
• the Federal and State government started to regulate businesses;
• legislation was created to protect working hours;
• the faint glimmer of a welfare state and social security system began to emerge;
• female suffrage was achieved;
• prohibition (though was this an achievement?).
• However African American rights remained appalling until the 1960s.
