I am really struggling on an essay for tomorrow morning - Please can anyone help me with a brief description of the communist regime and policies in Eastern Germany in the early 1950's. I have the following headings to guide me, so info about these would be helpful;

This may be too much if you are struggling to meet a deadline tomorrow, but there is much excellent primary source material on propaganda on the German propaganda archive:East German Propaganda and thus useful for your sections on Education and Indoctrination

I'll have a look around and see if I can find anything better.

I am trying to find out the general atmosphere and feelings of people living in East Germany in 1954 - 1980's(ish) - Until the Berlin Wall came down.

Ideally I want to find out the actual peoples opinions at the time of living under a communist regime and to identify some of their experiences?

Can you suggest any reading guides or websites please?

I'm afraid I don't teach this and so am not familiar with what is available, but I have found what would clearly be a valuable source if you can get hold of it:

Politics and Popular Opinion in East Germany 1945-1968 by Mark Allison. However it costs 47.50 :o Perhaps you could find it in a good public library.

Haven't been able to find much else of use/interest, I'm afraid.

Perhaps one the other teachers who helps here can be more informative.

These links appear to be of relevance.

http://www.frankcass...nls/gp_10-3.htm - this links to a journal that may be of use, you'd need to register on the site to gain full access.

http://www.people.co...stantRevol.html Appears to place the reform movement within a historical context.

http://www.foothill....tion/links.html If you know exactly what you're looking for these links should be helpful.

Slightly different, this page is about a film that it might be worth trying to find a copy of: http://www.theburnin...l.com/film.html

This google search seemed to pick up lots of additional sites that could be of use:
