Paper 2 Downloads and Specifications
For Edexcel Paper 2: Period Study and British Depth Study, students are required to write on one Period Study and one British Depth Study.
(NOTE: For the year of 2021, GCSE exams in the UK will not go ahead and will be replaced by a form of teacher-assessed grades. For more information on how these will work, please visit Edexcel’s website.)
Exam Paper Details
In Paper 2, students will write an exam that is 1 hour and 45 minutes in length, and consist of 64 marks).
The P booklet is for Period Studies. It comprises 32 marks and is worth 20% of the total qualification. Students are required to write on one Period study from the following:
- P1: Spain and the ‘New World’, c1490–c1555
- P2: British America, 1713–83: empire and revolution
- P3: The American West, c1835–c1895
- P4: Superpower relations and the Cold War, 1941–91
- P5: Conflict in the Middle East, 1945–95
The B booklet is for British Depth Study. It comprises 32 marks and is worth 20% of the total qualification. Students are required to write on one British Depth Study from the following:
- B1: Anglo-Saxon and Norman England, c1060–88
- B2: The reigns of King Richard I and King John, 1189–1216
- B3: Henry VIII and his ministers, 1509–40
- B4: Early Elizabethan England, 1558–88.
