KS3 On the Origin of Species Resources

On 24 November 1859, Charles Darwin proposed the theory of evolution by natural selection in his book On the Origin of Species. This process asserts that organisms change over time due to changes in heritable physical or behavioural characteristics.

These changes, according to Darwin, make an organism adapt to its environment better, thus helping it to survive and produce more offspring.

This idea of evolution by natural selection is considered one of the most important theories in the field of science as it intertwines with other scientific disciplines, such as palaeontology, geology, genetics and developmental biology.
