British Control of the Seychelles

• In 1794 Britain annexed the Seychelles
• In 1814 the Treaty of Paris formally gave Seychelles and Mauritius to the British
• A year later the Seychelles became under the control of Mauritius
• In 1835 Seychelles saw the abolishment of slavery and 1853 the establishment of the Roman catholic church
• World War I caused great hardship in the islands
